Introduction to Family Studies

Family Studies is an applied knowledge course that examines the diversity and evolving structure of the modern family. Upon completion of the course, proficient students will have knowledge of the demographic, historical, and social changes of interpersonal relationships, as well as parenting, and the effect of stressors on the family. Artifacts will be created for inclusion in a portfolio, which will continue to build throughout the program of study.

 

Prerequisites:  Introduction to Human Services (C19H19) and Lifespan Development (C19H17)

Programs of Study and Sequence:  This is the third course in the Human and Social Sciences program of study.

Grade Scale:

A: 90 -100   B: 80-89      C: 70-79      D: 60-69      F: 0-59


Nine Weeks Grades and Semester Grade:

Percentages used to average grades in classes without a state mandated exam:

  • 40% 1st or 3rd nine weeks + 10% mid-term (9weeks) test = beginning nine weeks grade.
  • 40% 2nd or 4th nine weeks + 10% final semester test = final nine weeks grade
    • Beginning nine weeks grade + final nine weeks grade/2 = Final Letter Grade

 BELL RINGERS – Will be given on the first day of the week.  Bell Ringers that have not been submitted into Canvas by 3:00pm at the end of the week will NOT be allowed to make up.  You have a week to get all bell ringers completed.
