Digital Learning 1 to 1 Program

Parent/Student Device Contract

Dear Parents,

Our school district is excited to have a 1 to 1 program in our schools to support digital learning in the classroom and home. We are excited that your student will have the opportunity to use a district device for school use and for specific grade levels, home use to support their learning while at school.

One of the key components of this program is to follow best practices for the use and care of these devices so that they can be used throughout the school year. It is important to note that a student can lose valuable instructional time if they do not have the device with them or in working orderWe have set the following guidelines and expectations for GCS student devices.

  • Parent/Guardian and student are required to sign this contract each year to be assigned a device.

  • Parent/Guardian and student are responsible for costs associated with loss, damages, or theft of the device.

  • Students will keep the device in the district provided protective sleeve /case and zipped up, while transporting.

  • Student will care for the device by not stacking books or other objects on top of the device while in a backpack or on a desk/table.

  • Student will ensure that at the end of the day, they will restart the device and plug it in to charge.

  • Failure to bring a device to school each day charged and ready for use will impact their participation in learning for that day. The school will NOT provide a spare computer or charger for that day. The student may become a “Day USER” in which the device stays at school for an indefinite period.

  • Student will not loan out the device or cord/charger to another student.

  • Student will immediately notify the teacher if the device is lost, stolen, or has a problem with the device.

  • Student will honor the 1:1 commitment by only using the device assigned to them and will not use or touch another student’s computer unless asked to assist

  • Parents and student agree to return the device, charger and sleeve to school in good working condition at the conclusion of the school year (or if I withdraw from Greene County Schools).

  • Willful abuse of the device (i.e. - picking keys off the keyboard) will not be tolerated and could affect a student’s participation in the 1 to 1 program. *

  • Failure to adhere to adequate care and use of a student device by a student will limit their access to the district device to a “day user only” status and/or other options for learning

There are two options for the parents to consider when deciding if home use is an option for their child.

  • Option 1 - District Protection Plan - $20 This protection plan would provide coverage for repairs up to the full cost of replacement for one device for the duration of the 1 to 1 program. This plan will cover one instance of loss or theft of device

  • A filed police report is required before a replacement device is issued.

  • Upon receipt of a replacement device, the parent and student would need to sign a new contract agreement and determine if the next device is covered by the protection plan. If selected, then a second $20 plan payment would be collected.

  • If a replacement device is lost or stolen during the 1 to 1 program, the school reserves the right to designate that student as a “Day User only” for the remainder of the 1 to 1 program.

  • The AC Adapter (Charging Cord) is not covered by this protection plan. You must return the AC Adapter or pay for a replacement adapter (typically between $25 and $60 depending on the type of adapter)

*This plan does not cover vandalism or willful abuse of the student device. This is a violation of the student AUP- Procedure 4.406 Exhibit A I.E. - Examples include breaking a screen on purpose or picking keys off of keyboard.

  • Option 2 – Decline the optional insurance coverage.

  • The parent takes full financial responsibility for any damages to the device, up to $300.

Parent/Student Contract Pledge

I pledge to review the Guidelines and Expectations listed above with my child and support him/her in the following pledge.

I understand that paying the $20 protection plan will cover my child’s assigned device over the course of the current school year. If I opt out of the protection plan in Option 2, I understand that I will be held liable for any damage to the device, which could cost up to the $300 full replacement value of the device.

I understand that my child’s device, A/C charger and case must be returned to their school at the end of current school year (or upon /his/her withdrawal from the system), and the device shall be returned in good condition and in good working order. Failure to return, may result in a filed police report as missing or stolen property.

I understand that if standards of care and use are not met, the school and district may rescind the option for a protection plan and may discuss alternatives to home use and the student and I may be responsible for the full cost of repair or replacement from that point forward.

I am choosing the following option: *
