Bio

I am sure you have heard my 'Yankee accent' & may be wondering: "How in the world did I end up here"!

Though I was born in Trenton, NJ & raised near Philadelphia, PA my father & his family are long time Greene & Hamblen County residents with our family roots stretching back to the 1700's. I spent many summers in my youth visiting the 'southern branch' of my family & came to love the Appalachian South. I actually taught at WGHS one time before, from 1996-2000 & am glad for the opportunity to come 'back to the future'!

I have lived & taught in many parts of the country, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Georgia & California. Our travels have allowed me to teach in many different settings, from rural schools to the inner city.

My family includes my son Ethan, a Graduate Student at the University of Notre Dame, a Boston Terrier Named Winston Churchill & an elderly cat, Bitty Bit!

GO IRISH!  :)

In addition to teaching in High Schools all over the USA, I also spent several years as Education Director for Southeastern Natural Sciences Academy at Phinizy Swamp, a 1200 acre Education & Research Facility, in Augusta, GA. In addition to developing & running the Park's Education Programs & Field Trips, I also had the opportunity to observe & work with many of the Park's 'residents', including snakes, otters & alligators!

I have founded Science Clubs everywhere I have gone, including my former years spent at WGHS!   Our current Science Club enjoys doing Community Service Activites, Field Trips & Science based Projects; I hope you will consider joining! Click here to go to the Science Club.

Music is important to me & I worked with Marching Bands at many of the schools where I have taught. I marched Drum & Bugle Corps for six years & have great affection for 'Bandies'! I still enjoy helping out with percussion from time to time  - Drummers Rule!

At the County level, I am a District Learning Leader & Curriculum Coach & am honored to be a 2017-18 Tennessee State Educator Fellow; one of 50 Teachers chosen from across the State to work with the TNDOE on Educational Policies & Practices. As the first Teacher ever chosen from the Greene County Schools, I am humbled to represent our Community at the State level!

All of these experiences have helped me be a better Teacher in so many ways & I am excited to be here at WGHS.

I hope you are too!   GO BUFFS!
